How sorbitol 70% works in your formulation
- Moisture control: sorbitol binds water and slows down drying out, for example in toothpaste, soft confectionery and bakery fillings.
- Süßkraft: about 60% of the sweetness of sucrose with a clean, mild taste.
- Colour stability: as a sugar alcohol, sorbitol does not take part in Maillard browning, so products keep their colour during heating.
- Flexibility: sorbitol acts as a plasticiser and keeps soft candies, soft gel capsule shells and films flexible.

Sorbitol solutions are produced as crystallising and non-crystallising types. Non-crystallising sorbitol stays liquid and clear for longer and is often chosen for toothpaste and soft confectionery. Both contain the same molecule. The solution is easy to pump and is used where water is part of the recipe, for example in toothpaste and syrups. The powder is used in dry products such as chewing gum, chewable tablets and powder blends.
Why does sorbitol solution become thick in winter?
The viscosity of sorbitol solution rises at low temperatures. Store the IBC in a heated area and bring it to room temperature before pumping.

Sorbitol solution 70% is supplied in IBCs of 1,100 kg. For smaller quantities, sorbitol powder in 25 kg bags can be an alternative.
