Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) is purified, partially depolymerised cellulose made from plant fibres such as wood pulp. It is a white, odourless, free-flowing powder that does not dissolve in water. MCC is used as a binder, filler and disintegrant in tablets and capsules and, as E460(i), as a bulking and anti-caking agent in foods.
